Journal Pals - Entry #4 (Autumn Reflections)

Journal Pals - Entry #3 pt. 2 (Colors of me)

Journal Pals - Entry #3 pt. 1 (Colors of me)

Journal Pals - Entry #2 (Personal Mission Statement)

This is the second part of the Journal Pals swap - My Personal Mission Statement:

My goal is to become more active
as a volunteer in my community
so that I can
put my values into action.
I believe in taking care
of my neighbors and helping people
who can’t help themselves.
I believe this entails more
than just donating money –
it means donating time
and giving of myself.
My first step toward this goal
will be to take local
first response training and
then contacting my local branch
of the American Red Cross to see
how I can help in a
larger capacity.

Journal Pals - Entry #1 (About Me)

I'm taking part in a series of swaps on Swap-bot called "Journal Pals" entries. Basically, there's a group of us who make entries revolving around a certain theme and we send them to one another and also post them to a Blogspot blog. Here's my first entry:

**note: this post had graphics, but I decided to leave them out when I reposted here**

The Basics:

My name is Michelle Frost. My Swap-bot “handle” is chelle523. I live in Urbana, Ohio – a town of about 12,000 people in central Ohio. I’m 38 and I’m the mother of 3 kids – ages 19, 16, and 9. I’ve been married to the same man for almost 20 years. I’m currently a stay-at-home mom as I home-school my 2 youngest kids. In the past I’ve worked as an office manager, a credit representative in a bank, a librarian and a computer teacher. I am a freelance writer and mixed media artist. I like making ATCs and working on art journals and altered books in my spare time. I also love reading, comedy, music, camping, travel and hiking.

The Not-So-Basics

I’m currently recovering from a hysterectomy, but feeling pretty well overall. I’m annoyingly optimistic and pretty progressive in my views. I have bipolar disorder, but am blessed that I don’t find it to be a handicap most of the time. I’d like to change people’s perceptions about the capabilities of those with mental disorders. I’m very spiritual though not overly religious. I believe very strongly in the idea that what goes around comes around, and also try to practice random acts of kindness as often as possible. I tend to look for the humorous angle in just about everything, as I find humor is one of the best tools for making your way through life. One of the greatest compliments anyone’s ever paid me was that I can make just about anything fun. My heroes are my two grandmothers – my grandma Porter because she helped raise me and is one funny, headstrong, compassionate lady, and my grandma Pullins because she was strong enough to raise 7 kids and still went back to high school to get her diploma when she was in her 40s. Here’s to strong women!

What’s on my mind at the moment?

A few things – first, raising three kids is often a lot bigger challenge than I thought it would be! And it doesn't seem to get easier when they get older. Second, that I need to develop a plan to get a handle on my weight without overdoing it and damaging my healing from the surgery. Third, the upcoming election. Fourth, money or the lack thereof.

A few random favorite things
